Peachtree Software Peachtree Complete Accounting 2009
Rather than dishing up a bevy of new features, Peachtree Complete Accounting 2009 delivers many tweaks to the program's innards. This whale of a product is one you should consider if your inventory tracking needs are great.
Despite its large feature set, Peachtree Complete is a relatively easy program to use. Menus and graphical flowcharts make navigation clear and straightforward, and records and forms make heavy use of icons to help you complete tasks and access related tools. Generous customization options and flexibility in describing and tracking people and items make the product a powerful financial aid.
Peachtree Complete's reporting capabilities have always been strong. The new version adds the ability to drill down on line items in financial statements to see the pertinent General Ledger entries. Another new function can be found in Peachtree Today, an embedded browser window that consolidates current information about your business and program tools and resources. The new Daily Register lists all transaction totals for the current day, divided by type, and you can drill deeper to see individual transactions.
If you have an inventory- intensive business, Peachtree Complete now offers better ways to track your company's products. Inventory record forms include new fields that let you store UPC/SKU numbers, buyer ID info, and product weight. You can also assign primary and secondary characteristics (such as size and color) to products; these classifications are available in reports and searches. And Peachtree Complete now gives you the ability to track individual items on outstanding sales and purchase orders.
Other changes help you document your written communications with customers. To clear up any confusion customers may have about their statements, you can print line-item detail and notes on their statements. You can also use the new credit memo screen to apply customer and vendor credits directly to the appropriate invoices. Peachtree Complete also offers improved forms printing and more flexible sales-tax calculations.
All Peachtree products are fashioned to extend beyond the confines of the single-user desktop. For example, the Web Accounting feature offers remote access to your Peachtree data. Off-site personnel (such as accountants, sales reps, and bookkeepers) can view a subset of Peachtree data from a secure Web site and enter transactions. Updates are not dynamic, though; you must synchronize to make everything current.
Optional services include tools to help you create an online store and transfer order information back into Peachtree Complete. And an online backup feature (also an extra-cost service) lets you store your data on a remote server.
Peachtree users who are a couple of upgrades behind should consider moving to Peachtree Complete Accounting 2009. And for those looking for a new system, this program is arguably the best choice for inventory-heavy businesses.
